“We didn’t play very well, we didn’t adapt well to their way of playing,” Mourinho told DAZN.
On Sunday, Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma team lost 3-2 to Hellas Verona in Serie A, his first loss since returning to coaching in Italy.
Verona captain Marco Faraoni’s stunning volley ended Roma’s unbeaten start to the Serie A season and gave his team their first win of the season.
After Lorenzo Pellegrini’s sublime back-heel flick gave the visitors a halftime lead, Roma appeared to be on track for another three points in the pouring Veneto rain.
Verona climbed out of the bottom three and into 14th place as new coach Igor Tudor, who replaced Eusebio Di Francesco in midweek, got off to a winning start.
In the 58th minute, Ivan Ilic equalized with an own goal after beating Roma attacker Tammy Abraham to a cross, but Verona grabbed the lead again five minutes later via Faraoni.
Roma poured on the pressure in quest of an equalizer, but Mourinho’s side was left unsatisfied to sit second in the table with nine points, ahead of third-placed AC Milan, who face Juventus later on Sunday.
Verona, however, took control of the match early in the second half thanks to goals from Antonin Barak and Gianluca Caprari.
