Prof. Ibrahim Agboola Gambari founded the Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy, and Development, a non-governmental “think tank” in Abuja, Nigeria.
During a cabinet meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, President Muhammadu Buhari joined cabinet members in wishing his Chief of Staff Prof. Ibrahim Agboola Gambari a happy 77th birthday.
Before the start of the Federal Executive Council, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha revealed to the cabinet that Gambari’s birthday is today 24th November 2021.
According to the President’s media adviser, Malam Garba Shehu cited President Buhari as congratulating Gambari on reaching 77 and jokingly said:
“you are still going strong! Congratulations!“
Laughter and birthday greetings rang out from the congregation of preachers.
After Abba Kyari’s death, Gambari became the new Chief of Staff in the administration.
Gambari had previously served as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and as Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Military Government of then-Major-General Muhammadu Buhari in the 1980s.
He then joined the United Nations, rising to the post of Under-Secretary-General and Special Adviser on Africa, where he served as the joint African Union and UN Special Representative in some of the world’s most difficult nations, including Angola, Darfur, Iraq, and Myanmar.
Gambari has taught at the City University of New York, the State University of New York at Albany, and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, as well as serving as a visiting professor at the John Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in Baltimore, Maryland.
He has produced many works on Nigerian foreign policy and has been frequently published in Nigerian and international academic publications.
The Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy, and Development, which Gambari founded in Abuja, is a non-governmental “think tank.”
