On Monday, a court in Los Angeles granted rapper, producer, and fashion designer Kanye West’s request to officially alter his name from Kanye Omari West to simply Ye, with no middle or last name.
According to court records, “there being no objections, the petition for change of name is approved.”
“Personal grounds” were mentioned in the petition submitted on August 24.
For years, he’s gone by the handle “Ye” on social media. At the end of 2018, he said on Twitter, “the person officially known as Kanye West. “My name is YE.
His 2018 album’s title was also a nod to the nickname. As he’s said in interviews, he loves it since it shortens his first name and because it appears in the Bible a lot.
When Kim Kardashian West filed for divorce from Kris Humphries in February, she did not request that her last surname be reverted later to simply Kardashian.
The couple’s four children are all named after his previous last name as is his current middle name.
