Despite scoring in Norwich’s 7-0 win, Thomas Tuchel warns Callum Hudson-Odoi
Chelsea’s next encounter is against Southampton on Tuesday night, and Thomas Tuchel has warned Callum Hudson-Odoi he must follow up his Norwich performance there.
Due to injuries to Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner, the 20-year-old was selected to start in Chelsea’s assault against Norwich City.
Werner and Lukaku aren’t here, are they? The Blues had no issues running amok at Stamford Bridge. It was a humiliating defeat for Norwich, who were reduced to 10 men in the second half and conceded seven goals.
Following an amazing through pass from Mateo Kovacic in the middle, Hudson-Odoi scored Chelsea’s second goal of the game with a precise finish past Tim Krul.
Even though Tuchel had challenged the Chelsea winger before the game to prove a point, Tuchel knew that it would take time and consistency over the course of 250 games to get there.
“The turning moment came after he played 250 games at the top level. If he plays well tomorrow (against Norwich), would it be a turning point? No.
For me, the key to the future is whether or not the player can regularly produce excellent matches, good halves, and strong 60-minute halves. This is as simple as that for every single member of your team.
There will be an increase in your available minutes after completing this task.” That will be one of those moments in the future when you can say: ‘that changed everything.'” Fighting is required if you want anything. You have to be deserving before you can get what you want. It has to be a perfect match at the correct time for it to happen. It’s not uncommon to need a little bit of good fortune now and again. However, Callum is the only one who has the solution. And he has our support.
Hudson-Odoi has one victory under his belt, but he still has a long way to go. Chelsea winger Willian blossomed despite Tuchel’s yelling on the touchline during the opening five minutes of the match against Norwich, and he scored a second-half goal as a result.
After seeing how Hudson-Odoi performed against Norwich on Sunday, Tuchel is confident that he can continue that form when the teams meet again on Wednesday.
Tuchel responded to the media by saying he was delighted with the performance of the 20-year-old.
“He had a nice game against Malmo and a solid game today, but he still has to develop and work on some aspects.
“It’s all up to him from here. To reiterate what I stated before the game, he must now demonstrate that he can put in performances like this on a regular basis. The next chance will come on Tuesday.”
